The new Mazda BT-50 is set to arrive in South Africa in 2021, There was a time when describing a bakkie as “handsome” or “striking” could get one banned from braais, but the new BT-50 cuts a fine figure. There are elements of the Mazda’s Kodo design language in the sweeping crease lines that flow from the grille to the side mirrors. In its most luxurious spec, the BT-50 features leather trim, automatic climate control and a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The front seats are comfy and supportive, the steering column is reach- and rake adjustable and, to Mazda’s credit, the finishes feel substantial and the controls well-weighted. Hot on the heels of its nearly identical sibling, the 2021 Mazda BT-50 will be coming soon, with the brand hoping to capitalise on what is undoubtedly a high-quality platform. You also get reasonable leg and headroom, separate ventilation outlets, a fast-charging USB port, a fold-out armrest, 3 adjustable headrests, seat pockets and a bottle holder in each of the rear doors. The seat can also tumble forward in a 60:40 split if you’d like more luggage. In conclusion, the 2021 Mazda BT-50 is looking more likely to be a great addition to the Mazda brand, coming soon to CMH Mazda Durban.

The Mazda CX-5 has proven to be a formidable offering in the family car segment, so much so, in fact, that it’s currently the Cars Awards powered by WesBank Family Car champion and might even scoop yet another win in the 2020/21 iteration of the awards program with the winners due to be announced in mid-February.
In an effort to boost the CX-5’s already impressive kerb appeal, Mazda SA has now introduced a sportier version called the CX-5 Carbon Edition which effectively replaces the CX-5 2.0 Individual derivative. The CX-5 Carbon Edition retains the familiar naturally-aspirated 2.0-litre petrol engine which offers 121kW and 213Nm powering the front wheels via a 6-speed automatic transmission.
On the outside, the CX-5 Carbon Edition gains styling enhancements such as glossy black mirrors and 19-inch black alloy wheels while the interior boasts black film seen on the dashboard and door panels as well as red stitching on the steering wheel, gear lever, knee pads and seats. Leather and suede combination upholstery is standard. Customers will have the choice of 6 exterior colours including Snowflake White Pearl, Sonic Silver, Machine Grey, Soul Red Crystal, Poly-metal Grey and Jet Black.
“The Mazda CX-5 is still an appealing SUV with its exterior styling, comfortable and pleasing interior, and the many standard features it offers. We have added the Carbon Edition to subtlety enhance the style of this SUV further, whilst retaining its outstanding balance of ride and handling” commented Craig Roberts, Managing Director of Mazda Southern Africa.

Mazda’s first mass-production electric vehicle has been unveiled at 2019 Tokyo Motor Show. From the outset, the development team behind the Mazda MX-30 wanted to create a car that would become a partner to its owner. It should appeal to be driven daily, and every time a customer gets behind the wheel, their affection for it should grow, and they can be more true to themselves. Everything about the model, from the styling that breeds a sense of familiarity, to the open-feeling cabin that sets the mind free, is uncompromisingly designed around the user.
With MX-30, the company hopes to offer not only a new choice for customers but new and life-enriching ways of using and spending time with your car. For the interior, we valued a sense of openness. The interior space with a floating theme gives a sense of unity, and you can find Mazda’s attachment to the environment, and to interior comfort and craftsmanship, through materials such as Heritage Cork. On top of this, the space created through opening the free-style doors gives a further open feel, to stimulate the senses of both the driver and passengers.
The team created an open-feeling cabin interior and paid particular attention to the selecting the right materials and showing them in ways that bring out their best. Heritage Cork used in the console tray is designed to emphasize the texture and visual warmth of the material. The door trim features a fibrous material with a texture that seems to contain air, creating a material-based sense of openness within the cabin. Both of these materials are designed to be low-impact and sustainable. The door trim uses fibres made from recycled plastic bottles and the cork is harvested from the bark of trees without felling. The comfortable interior of the MX-30 is composed of such environmentally friendly materials.
The demand for safety is increasing day-by-day. As such, Mazda MX-30 is equipped with our further-enhanced advanced safety technology, i-Activsense. Specifically, our injury and damage-mitigating brake technology, Smart Brake Support (SBS), adds a collision prevention function at intersections. Another new technology assists in avoiding deviation from the driving lane through monitoring the curb, in addition to lane markings. Despite the MX-30 adopting Mazda’s center-pillar-less Freestyle door system, excellent collision safety performance is achieved through a rigid body and structures that efficiently absorb crash energy. In addition, the frame structures pay minute attention to the protection of the high-voltage battery. The MX-30 incorporates these latest safety philosophies and technologies to enable safe and joyful driving.
Mazda are truly breaking boundaries and the MX-30 has definitely not fallen short by any standard, with 2019 being such an exciting year for Mazda 2020 is going be real roller coaster ride.
