CMH Mazda Umhlanga – Mazda3 Astina

Reflecting on my 11-year journey at CMH Mazda Umhlanga, the Mazda3 Astina Hatch remains one of my all-time favourites. Specifically, I’ve always been drawn to the polymetal grey exterior paired with striking red leather interior and a subtle tint that accentuates the bold upholstery.

As a young promoter in 2014, I’d often get to drive the Mazda3 Astina for short trips, like fuelling up or preparing it for a mall display. But it wasn’t until 2015, when I became the top salesman at CMH Mazda Umhlanga, that my dream came true – my boss gifted me a red Mazda3 Astina as my demo vehicle!

I was obsessed with keeping it spotless, and I must admit, I felt a pang of jealousy whenever colleagues took it for test drives with customers. Unfortunately, my time with that demo was short-lived, as a customer purchased it shortly after. Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to drive various Mazda models, but none have captured my heart quite like the Mazda3 Astina.

To me, its design evokes the sleek, powerful lines of a venomous snake or a cheetah poised to strike. Not only does it boast impressive fuel efficiency, cutting-edge tech, and a unique aesthetic, but it also has a peculiar effect on me – I find myself constantly turning back to admire it, especially when the turn signals flicker.
