The New Mazda 3 Hatchback & Sedan over recent years has gone through a complete overall to establish itself as a premium hatchback in its segment. The New Mazda 3 has a lot to offer, but is it enough to sway the decision of most buyers committed to other brands or those who are looking to upgrade their dated Mazda 3?
Technology.
The current Mazda 3 has ditched its flip-up Heads-up-display for a Projected Head-up-display which is bigger, brighter and much more visible to read while you drive. The HUD shows the speed of the vehicle and cruise control settings. If you have setup your destination on the Navigation system on board, it will show your next turn.
Unfortunately, this feature does not work when you connect your phone to Android Auto or Apple CarPlay Maps.
Warning symbols can also be displayed on the HUD if your Mazda 3 comes configured with I-Activesense. These symbols include Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Monitoring, Lane Keep Assist, Smart City Brake Support, Smart Brake Support System and Mazda Radar Cruise control.
The HUD is also customizable to set it up, so it suits you and your driving style. The Mazda 3 comes standard with an 8.8-inch widescreen colour display which is fitted on all its model offerings in South Africa. The New Mazda 3 also comes with Mazda’s new MZD Connect system.
The Mazda 3 now comes equipped with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay standardly. The people spoke and Mazda listened. The new additional features have surely positioned Mazda one step closer to achieving a premium product which is surely a cut above the rest.
Engines.
The Mazda 3 comes with 2 petrol engine options. The first is a 1.5 Litre Sky-active engine which delivers 88kw of power and 153Nm of torque. Your other option is a 2.0 Litre Sky-active engine which delivers 121kw of power and 213nm of torque. This engine can be found in the top spec Astina model. Both engines drive the Mazda 3 through a FWD (Forward Wheel Drive Train) system.
Drive.
The Mazda 3 has been refined to offer a very comfortable and relaxing drive. Mazda has focused its attention to make the vehicles driver excited and it can be felt as soon as you get behind the wheel of the New Mazda 3. Its sharp flat cornering around the tight bends really holds it’s own and has progressive speed moment through the gear shifts.
The 1.5L models are offered in both a Manual and Auto transmission while the 2.0L Astina is only offered in an Auto Transmission. Both engines return decent fuel economy figures which won’t leave you on the side of the road driving down to Durban from Johannesburg with a Jerry can in your hands.
