When Do You Need to Change Your Wiper Blades? 3 Tips from CMH Mazda Durban

Change Your Wiper Blades: 3 Tips

With the rainy season approaching, it is essential to know when to change your wiper blades and maintain the roadworthiness of your vehicle. Your wiper blades and tyres are the most critical components.

At CMH Mazda Durban, we’re offering a special promotion for all CX-5s, CX-3s, and Mazda 2s from 2015 and up – come in for a service and have your front wiper blades changed on us!

But how do you know when it’s time to change your wiper blades?

Here are three signs to look out for:

  1. Leaving streaks on your windshield – Damaged or bent wipers become less effective at clearing your windshield of rain and other road elements. Under extreme pressure, they will eventually leave streaks where the rubber is no longer snug against your windshield.
  2. Squeaking noises during operation – If you hear squeaks every time you turn on your wipers, this could indicate several issues, including debris or grime build-ups, or worn or damaged rubber elements causing wiper structure to touch, and potentially damage, windshield glass.
  3. Ageing – Wipers spend their service life putting up with rain, road debris, bugs, and bird droppings. These harsh elements make ageing, or regular wear, inevitable, thus making replacement a priority. A general rule is to change your wipers every 6 months.
In addition to your wiper blades, having correctly inflated tyres with good tread is essential for driving in the rain. You can check the correct tyre pressure on the door sill. properly-inflated-tyre-cmh-mazda-durban Before heading out in the rainy season, make sure your wiper blades and tyres are in good working condition.
